Videos Naturally
Introduction:
The vast majority of the videos on my YouTube Channel are short one to two minute videos. “Videos Naturally” are designed to capture the experience of watching nature in the field. These short videos feature a species or a habitat often with some connection to Riverwood or Southern Ontario.
Students are encouraged to watch the videos and to discuss what they see. To help guide their discussions teachers will find a series of questions based on the videos. The questions follow the appropriate curriculum for the various grades. Like the curriculum, the questions become more sophisticated and build on the maturing students understanding of the concepts covered.
It would be appropriate for students to look at the questions from their previous years as this well help reinforce previous concepts and allow them to builds on that knowledge.
There is no narration with these videos. The goal is to try and put the student there in nature, watching events unfold. The videos taken over hours, sometimes days and even months do compress time into the one minute time allotment. The gnatcatcher video was filmed over a period of a few days while the cormorant video was done over a period of three months.
Narrated Videos
Some videos are narrated and in a few cases there may be both a "natural" video and a "narrated" video. Music, sound effects and narration have been added. The videos in this collect will continue evolve as the author experiments with new photographic techniques, editing and production values.
Longer Videos
In some cases topics and ecosystems are explored in more depth in longer videos. These may be nattated or not.
